A day in the life of a Laptop Engineer

One of our core values is based on building trust.

Trust between colleagues, suppliers and customers alike. We believe that one of the key elements of building trust is in developing relationships, particularly being able to put a face to a name.

So in the coming weeks and months, our website will feature members of the CDL team. These articles will not only demonstrate who we are as an employer, but will give you an insight into how we work as a business.

We hope you will enjoy these short, but sweet, articles on our great team.

Daniel Kolaczyk, Laptop Engineer

Daniel came to CDL 12 years ago having moved to England from Poland when he was 23. From a Banqueting Assistant at the Mere Country Club to working in General Assetting at CDL, Daniel started to learn the ropes.

He says, “everyone tends to start on General Assetting and then gradually work in different areas, learning the business as they go.”

“CDL feels like home for me now, I understand the job so well, I am very happy.”

Daniel’s day starts on his work bench. He clears the jobs from the previous day and sets to work on laptops which have been prioritised for customers before moving on to general stock.

Some of the laptops might be scrap if they are not economic to fix, but generally Daniel will diagnose any problems the machines might have, source replacement parts such as keyboards for example, give them a full repair, test, check battery life, screen, keyboard and then put them in the appropriate place.

We asked him what he liked most about working at CDL, he said; “The freedom, if you know what you are doing, you get the space to work as you like.”

Daniel goes home to a wife and 2 boys who are 2 and 8, so he has his hands full there. He’s a football Dad at the weekends, watching his eldest and when he gets chance he likes to go running to blow the cobwebs away.
