A day in the life – Phil Taylor

One of our core values is based on building trust.

Trust between colleagues, suppliers and customers alike. We believe that one of the key elements of building trust is in developing relationships, particularly being able to put a face to a name.

So in the coming weeks and months, we will feature members of the CDL team. These articles will not only demonstrate who we are as an employer, but will give you an insight into how we work as a business.

We hope you will enjoy these short, but sweet, articles about our great team.

Phil Taylor – PC Engineer

Phil started life as a painter and decorator, he did this for 13 years before he got a job working for Vauxhall as a Plant Protection Officer where he was responsible for the on-site security, fire and ambulance crews. He worked there for 21 years after which time Phil decided it was time for a change.

He started at CDL in 2018 not really knowing much about the world of IT recycling and has surprised himself with how much there is to learn. Something that he is coming to enjoy a great deal.

Phil said; “I love learning a new trade, I like seeing how things work, I find technology really fascinating.”

Phil’s typical day starts around 6am, he has a chat with some of the lads and then starts work. His first job is to get a PC on the bench, working through its faults and then reporting it to the system before moving onto the next one. His aim is to clear his bench as quickly as possible whilst ensuring each piece of equipment is properly documented. The PCs get tested and moved on depending on the result, if it fails it gets sent for manual destruction where the hard drive is crushed completely.

Phil said; “I know how important it is to be thorough. We double check all the machines because sometimes they have hidden hard drives in them. We need to make sure there are no stones left unturned.”

At the end of a long day, Phil returns to Ellesmere Port where he lives with his wife and two kids of 10 and 8 years old. He likes to go out with the family walking or biking in New Brighton but his heart really lies in America. He would love to do a fly drive holiday so that he can drive the notorious ‘Route 66’, he also has aspirations to visit New York and LA one day!
